Leuven Centre for Irish Studies
The Leuven Centre for Irish Studies (LCIS) is a multi- and interdisciplinary research centre of the Humanities and Social Sciences of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, and is based in the historic Irish College in Leuven.
The Centre has three objectives: first, to stimulate cooperation between researchers from Irish universities and from the Association of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven; second, to conduct research in the traditional fields of Irish Studies as well as in research areas related to the Irish context; and finally, to promote cultural events in cooperation with the Leuven Institute for Ireland in Europe.
These objectives are achieved through a number of cultural and academic events which are organized throughout the year, academic conferences and the LCIS lecture series.
Three research areas can be distinguished within the Leuven Centre for Irish Studies:
Literature, History, Theology, Philosophy and Fine Arts
Peace and Transformative Growth
Economics, Business, Law, Innovation and Valorization
In these activities the Centre also supports the European Federation of Associations and Centres of Irish Studies (EFACIS).
The Leuven Centre for Irish Studies is the result of close cooperation between the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and the Leuven Institute for Ireland in Europe. It is based within the Leuven Institute for Ireland in Europe and cooperates with the Institute in the provision of academic content for its programmes and cultural events.
